Comparative Study of Dayside Pulsating Auroras Induced by Ultralow-Frequency Waves

چکیده
Pulsating auroras are usually observed with ultralow-frequency (ULF) waves in the Pc 3–5 band (period 10–600 s). These thought to result from interactions between energetic electrons and chorus waves, but their relationship ULF remains an open question. In this study, we investigated question by conducting a comparative study on two wave events pulsating near magnetic footprints. Conjugate observations Magnetospheric Multiscale mission Chinese Yellow River Station were used. both events, lower-band observed, which suggested be connected auroral pulsations wavelet analysis. We highlight role wind–magnetosphere–ionosphere coupling, requires further study.

On the motion of dayside auroras caused by a solar wind pressure pulse
Global ultraviolet auroral images from the IMAGE satellite were used to investigate the dynamics of the dayside auroral oval responding to a sudden impulse (SI) in the solar wind pressure. At the same time, the TV all-sky camera and the EISCAT radar on Svalbard (in the pre-noon sector) allowed for detailed investigation of the auroral forms and the ionospheric plasma flow. After the SI, new dis...

Powerful high-frequency (HF) radio waves can be used to efficiently modify the upper-ionospheric plasmas of the F region. The pressure gradient induced by modulated electron heating at ultralow-frequency (ULF) drives a local oscillating diamagnetic ring current source perpendicular to the ambient magnetic field, which can act as an antenna radiating ULF waves. In this paper, utilizing the HF he...

Extensive radar observations have been made from Sondrestrom of the F region in the daytime sector between 70 and 79 ø A. Regions of enhanced electron temperature and electron density are found in close association with the velocity reversal in the morning and afternoon convection cells. From the radar measurements, calculations are made of the contributions to the atomic oxygen emission at 630...

ames. The models differ in their kinetic mechanisms, i.e. one-step and two-step chainbranching reaction schemes are considered here. It is shown that in these models there exists a variety of dynamical regimes of nonlinear wave propagation depending on the control parameters. These regimes include travelling waves, pulsating periodic waves, pulsating waves emerging due to the period-doubling bi...
